Duchess’ Story

History:  Duchess was a stray, she was found repeatedly trying to enter the same yard. The family that lived there said that she did not belong to them.  Duchess is just over a year old and had already been bred repeatedly.  She was very afraid and it took multiple days to catch her.

About:  Dutchess is a very sweet and friendly young dog.  She absolutely loves other dogs and tries to get every dog she meets to play with her. She’s currently being fostered in a home with a senior doberman who is a stick in the mud when it comes to playing, but that doesn’t stop Dutchess from throwing down a play bow here and there in case the resident dog has changed her mind (she hasn’t yet). Dutchess isn’t being fostered in a home with children but she spent a weekend with the foster’s nephews and she seems to truly love children… she even play bows to children she meets when she’s on a walk!  Dutchess can be a tad bit shy when meeting new adults, but if you give her one minute to get to know you, she might be sitting in your lap the next minute.  Her foster mom said her trust levels go: Dogs>Children>Adults.
Dutchess is also very housetrained and is also crate trained.  She will go into her crate when she just wants to just lay down and chill out.  She is still getting the hang of “dog toy” or “not a dog toy,” but she rarely “creatively restructures” the wrong item twice.  She’s no dummy.  Our girl is exceptionally smart and would love a family that wants to have some training fun with her or teach her new tricks!  She was very thin when she was picked up so it was obvious food was scarce.  These days she deems EVERY meal worthy of a doggie dance to show her excitement.
Dutchess is very quiet and would be a great dog for an apartment or condo as long as she is given the exercise that she needs.  She has the medium-high energy level that you would expect from a shepherd or shepherd mix.   She loves to run around with other dogs and also loves to play fetch. (She would like to request that a chuckit be a required item to adopt her), but she is usually calm in the house.
Her foster mom used the following words to describe her: Sweet, Smart, Playful, Loving, Gentle
