Midnight’s Story

History:  Midnight was an owner surrender brought in during our CRISP shift.  The owner’s building was under new management and they were not allowed to keep him.  He was pulled by a rescue shelter and adopted within a week.  His adoptive family found out that he was deaf and did not feel like they would be the best home for him so they returned him.  The shelter felt he would do best in a foster home so we brought him into the Lulu’s Locker Rescue family.

About:  Midnight is deaf and is currently being trained using hand signals.  He knows Sit, Down, and Shake.  He is also learning Stay.  Midnight is great with both people and dogs.  Although Midnight loves children of all ages, he will do best with older children who are able to understand that deaf dogs can be startled while they are sleeping.  Midnight is used to being crated, but he will whine and cry for a few minutes when he first goes in.  Midnight has lived with male and female dogs and he is great with both.  Midnight walks very well on leash and is used to multiple daily walks.  A fenced yard is not required, but he might love to have one.  He loves to play with balls and frisbees. Midnight loves attention from people, but he can be a bit timid when meeting new people.  Once he realizes that they have hands and those hands can pet him, he turns into a ball of mush and leans in for more.  Midnight’s foster home is having some difficulty with his housetraining, so that is a work in progress.  Midnight will need to be adopted into a patient family who has experience with deaf dogs, or is willing to learn the hand signals and training differences.
