WEIGHT: 12lbs

DOGS: Yes
CATS: No

HISTORY:
Pepeto was an owner surrender during a CRISP (https://www.crispchicago.com/) shift. His owner could no longer care for him.

ABOUT:
Add some snuggly chihuahua mix to your life and adopt Pepeto! This guy loves to snuggle on the couch and in bed with his foster mom. He even has the softest fur to enhance your snuggle experience. He lives with multiple other dogs and gets along really well with everyone and even tolerates the resident sassy chihuahua who can give him a hard time. He loves to meet other dogs so much that he can throw a bit of a tantrum in public if he isn’t allowed to say hi. Pepeto is also being fostered in a home with a cat and a bird and he would be much more comfortable being in a dog and human only family. He is very interested in chasing both of them and it causes him some stress and anxiety. Pepeto is very smart and is very food motivated. He has long legs that can spring him onto the bar stools and he might go “shopping” on the counter every so often. He also will sneak his slender body through the bars of an iron fence so he will need leash walks, or a more secure fence. Pepeto is skeptical of strangers who come into his house, but he does much better meeting strangers outside. Pepeto doesn’t destroy anything in the home so he gets to hang in the kitchen with all the other dogs when his foster mom isn’t home. Pepeto previously lived with young children, but because he can occasionally guard food or toys we would recommend a home with older kids. Pepeto has a bit of an embarrassing obsession: He loves CAT toys.

WEIGHT: 40lbs
KIDS: Likely
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Unknown, Possible

HISTORY:
Lucia was a stray brought to a Chicago animal control facility.

ABOUT:
Lucia is a very sweet adaptable girl who will do well in a variety of homes. She is currently being fostered in a home with three other dogs and she gets along with everyone and fits in perfectly. She absolutely LOVES other dogs so she would make a great companion for another dog. Lucia loves people and thrives on attention, but on occasion she can be a little shy with new people. She is fast to warm up, especially if they offer scratches and pets. Lucia is crate trained and house trained. She has also been generally respectful of the bearded dragon and pet rats in the home. While she is not hyper Lucia will need to have a willing canine playmate or a family who will make sure she gets some daily exercise. Once she’s had some play time Lucia is a total snuggly couch potato. Are you wondering what the catch is? She sounds perfect, right? We have to be honest and disclose everything, so here goes: she snores like an old man with a smoking habit holding a chainsaw next to a Mack truck. We hope potential families can look past this to adopt this sweet girl.

WEIGHT: 32lbs
KIDS: Likely
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Unknown

HISTORY:
Maggie and her buddy Geanie came from Alabama. They had an owner who took the girls into his care from a homeless person. When that owner passed away his elderly father took the girls in and cared for them, unfortunately he had to go into an assisted living facility so the girls came to Lulu’s Locker to find their forever home together.

ABOUT:
Maggie MUST be adopted with her best buddy Geanie. Both of these girls are incredibly sweet. They are both easy going and have a low energy level. Being a little younger, Maggie will occasionally pick up a toy to play Both girls know sit...when food is involved. They are not being fostered with kids, but because they are very calm and sweet we think they would be fine with children as long as they can respect that the girls aren’t interested in running and playing. Both girls are overweight, so they might gain a little more energy as they continue to lose some of their extra pounds. They get along just fine with the resident senior dog.

HISTORY:
Paddy was found as a stray in Chicago around St. Patrick's Day.

ABOUT:
Paddy was found as a stray. Paddy is a laid back dude that needs time to adjust to new environments because he is blind. He is currently in a foster home with 2 adults and 3 dogs. He is fine with the other dogs, but mainly just keeps to himself. He does prefer more laid back dogs that respect his space.
Paddy is still getting use to a housebreaking routine. With being older, he does need more frequent potty breaks. He is currently wearing a belly band, but does not have accidents at night when sleeping. He is not crate trained, but has his own area in the house when he is left alone.
He is very good on walks, and is fine being in public. His two favorite activities are to snuggle on your lap, and lounge in the sun. He likes baths and loves to help assist in the kitchen when meals are being made. Paddy does get his exercise by zooming around at night for a few minutes, and also gets happy feet when he hears his foster parents’ voices.
Paddy will do best in a quiet household that is patient with his potty habits, and mindful of the surroundings since he cannot see.

Stray

ABOUT:
Hey is being fostered with 2 small/medium dogs, and 2 cats. He gets along well with everyone and might enjoy a home with a more playful companion the two seniors in his foster home. Hey has gotten very comfortable with the two cats in the home and has no problem curling up next to them. He is housetrained and is not destructive when left alone during the day. Hey’s foster mom says overall he is very laid back and adapts well, but he can be a little shy with strangers and needs a few minutes to get comfortable with them. He would do best in an environment that isn’t too loud or busy. He will feel more comfortable in homes with no children, or older, more calm children. Like many small dogs he can do some alarm barking, so neighbors will need to be taken into consideration in apartment buildings. Hey is happiest when he is snuggling next to his people on the couch.

HISTORY:
We rescued Mouse from a Chicago open admission shelter

ABOUT:
Mouse is all about comfort and being with her person. Her foster home is quiet, and she lives with other small Chihuahua dogs. Because Mouse is only 4 pounds, she would be best suited for a home without children or older children.
Mouse is housebroken and doesn’t require crating. She prefers quiet time with her human over playing with toys. She has a moderate energy level as she will have some fun doing zoomies in the yard, but will be followed by couch potato time!
Mouse is hoping to find a family that has a lot of time to spend with her. She will whine and bark if separated for too long.

HISTORY:
Rocket came to Lulu’s from an animal control facility in Alabama.

ABOUT:
Rocket has a lot of energy, and is really fun. He is housebroken, and very quiet when he is in his kennel. He is great with other dogs, and takes cue very well when his puppy-like behavior may be too much. He did meet one cat who hissed at him, and he immediately went in the opposite direction.
He loves toys. He brings them outside, and runs back and forth in the yard with them. He also likes to empty his toy box, but does not like when they go back in! He does good on walks, and isn't reactive to anything on walks. We call him "nosey rosie" as he does want to stop and check out what all the neighbors are doing when he is on his walks.

HISTORY:
Canelo was rescued from a Chicago shelter.

ABOUT:
Canelo is 10 years young. When he first went to his foster home, he did not know the joy of snuggling on the couch. That all changed soon! He is a paws up, binge TV watcher with his favorite person. He does have a few stuffies that he drags around, but not really into toys. He prefers small dogs. He has not done well with big dogs. He lives with older children and has met a younger child and did well.
He does stay in his crate at night and when his foster mom goes out. He does have accidents so someone who is home more to let him out would be ideal.
His favorite thing to do (besides be with his human) is to be outside and go for walks. He is even great about going outside to potty in any type of weather, true Illinois dog!
He would love a home where he could spend a lot of his time on his person’s lap being petted. He is a loyal and loving companion. He doesn’t even mind being carried like a baby once he knows you!

HISTORY:
Jason was brought as a stray to a Chicago Animal Control facility.

ABOUT:
Jason is a low energy dog with simple demands. Jason loves to be with his people and will follow you from room to room. He loves to be pet, but he does not need constant attention, he just wants to be where you are. He loves to sit near you or next to you on the couch, but never asks to sit on your lap. He will cry to be invited onto the bed but then generally chooses to sleep down next to your legs. If you’ve been busy all day he will come over and whine a bit for you to scratch his head or rub his belly, but his demands are very temporary and easily fulfilled. Jason has been fostered with two large dogs and has met multiple small dogs. He generally keeps to himself, but every once in a while he gets frisky and tries to engage another dog in play. As is typical with small dogs, Jason likes to feel like he is the boss of the other dogs, so he’ll do best with a tolerant buddy. For trying hard to be a tough guy, Jason is actually a sensitive guy who gets his feelings hurt easily. Jason is not a one-person type of dog, but he does like to get to know people before they do more intimate handling with him. Jason REALLY loves the ladies and generally takes to women faster than men….like...as soon as they walk in the door and talk to him. Jason has gotten use to living in an apartment and doesn’t bark much at the coming and going of the neighbors, but he will bark at people and noises outside if the windows are open. Jason is low energy and loves to sleep most of the day, but he is up in a snap if you leave the room or sound like you’re going to do something fun. He likes to be chased around a little bit but once he’s done its back to his bed for a nap, frequently in the “dead possum” pose. Jason loves to go on walkies and will hop in the car on his own if you leave the door open. Jason has met a kitten and a feisty adult cat. He was very friendly and appropriate with both. He was intrigued by the kitten, but completely disinterested in the adult cat. We are pretty sure he is cat-friendly.

ABOUT:
Barry is a 15 year old terrier mix. He is very independent and is happy just chilling on his bed, but greets everyone, wanting love and rubs. He was dropped off at a vet and we were so happy to take him in. His foster mom describes him as a lovebug, sweetheart, and fine around other dogs. Looking for a cuddle buddy? Jem is your girl! Jem is approximately 2 years old and the absolute sweetest girl who loves nothing more than being close to her people. Apart from snuggling, she has a nice medium energy level and will play with toys on her own (or with you), preferably soft squeaky toys, Kongs and anything she can chew on! Jem is house trained, but is still working on her crate training. She would do best in a home without cats.

HISTORY:
King’s owner had been keeping him in their apartment for many many years. The landlord did a surprise visit and realized they had a dog and forced the family to surrender him to a shelter immediately.

ABOUT:
Despite being blind King is an adventurous guy! When he is introduced to a new space the first thing he wants to do is walk around and investigate. King loves to cuddle and snuggle while in the house, but when he is outside he insists on being set down so that he can walk around and explore the world, he has no fear! King does bark when he can’t find anyone but if you call out to him he will quiet up and use his radar-like skills to come find you. He is being fostered with multiple other dogs and he gets along great with everyone and loves to be in the middle of the action. His foster home feels that he would probably do just as well with cats. King lives with a 13 year old boy and they get along great. He would probably do best in a home with someone who is home often, or has other friendly, social pets who can stay with him while the people are gone. King has one silly/peculiar behavior: He loves to sleep with JUST his head covered by a blanket! King’s foster mom used the following words to describe him: Sweet, Gentle, Nuzzly, Cuddly, Adventurous.
Being 13 years old, King has a few medical conditions that potential adopters should know about. He is currently on the heart medications: Vetmedin, Furosemide, and Enapril, but he is receiving a low dose so this could be increased as time goes on if needed. His vet suggested that 1 year would be the very low end of his prognosis, but she often sees dogs live up to 3 years with his condition. We estimate his monthly medications to be around $80. His general blood work is great for a dog his age and he is still very active. King’s foster mom is doing a fantastic job with him and is doing a great job managing his health and is even personally sponsoring his medications and vet visits, but she would love to share the happiness his joy extrudes with a forever home of his own. King is looking for an adopter who wants a great, happy, glass-half-full companion, but who has the financial stability to cover his monthly medications. His foster home is willing to transport King for meet and greets, so you will not be required to visit him in Kankakee.
