HISTORY:
Barney was an owner surrender to a vet clinic. His previous owners refused to groom him and it was causing medical issues.

ABOUT:
If you’re looking for an easy going pup, who’s dog and cat friendly, Barney is your boy. This senior Shih Tzu mix is as low key as they come. His two favorite things are his dog bed and blanket, and he’s an expert napper. He especially appreciates if he has a dog bed in multiple rooms of the house, so he can curl up no matter where he is. He walks well on a leash and is interested but polite if other dogs approach him. He currently lives in a home with other low key dogs and does wonderfully with them. Barney LOVES his food and treats and would be sure to never miss a meal. His unique appearance makes him extra endearing and his underbite could win awards. When he’s not napping or eating, “Barnacle” likes to interrupt Netflix time by loudly lapping from the water bowl.

HISTORY:
Jason was brought as a stray to a Chicago Animal Control facility.

ABOUT:
Jason is a low energy dog with simple demands. Jason loves to be with his people and will follow you from room to room. He loves to be pet, but he does not need constant attention, he just wants to be where you are. He loves to sit near you or next to you on the couch, but never asks to sit on your lap. He will cry to be invited onto the bed but generally chooses to sleep down near your legs or even a bit away from you. If you’ve been busy all day he will come over and whine a bit for you to scratch his head or rub his belly, but his demands temporary and easily fulfilled. Jason has been fostered with two large dogs and has met multiple small dogs. He’s well behaved with other dogs, but isn’t much for interacting with them. He would be most happy as an only dog, or living with other calm dogs who are more into coexisting than interacting with him. Be warned, he will glare at you if you spend too much time petting another dog. He’s a sensitive guy who gets his feelings hurt easily. Jason is not a one-person type of dog, but he does like to get to know people before they do more intimate handling with him. Jason is particularly fond of women, but guys are ok too. Jason likes to listen to himself talk while you are away so he will be best in a detached home, or an apartment with thick walls. Jason is low energy and loves to sleep most of the day, but he is up in a snap if you leave the room or sound like you’re going to do something fun. He likes to be chased around a little bit but once he’s done its back to his bed for a nap. Jason has met a kitten and a feisty adult cat. He was very friendly and appropriate with both. He was intrigued by the kitten, but completely disinterested in the adult cat. We are pretty sure he is cat-friendly.

AGE: 6-7 Years (Est DOB: 2012-2013)
WEIGHT: 12lbs
KIDS: Yes
DOGS: No
CATS: Yes

HISTORY:
Candy’s owner surrendered her during a CRISP (https://www.crispchicago.com/) shift because their landlord decided to no longer allow pets.

ABOUT:
Introducing Candy: The family pet extraordinaire! She is being fostered with two little girls (2 and 6 years) and she loves them! She likes to be picked up, carried, snuggled, and played with. She even takes it in stride when they get a little wound up and rowdy. Candy is housetrained and always goes potty when brought outside. She is a flexible lady and will also use potty pads when offered to her, which can come in very handy on cold days or when you might be gone a little bit longer. Her foster home does not crate Candy while they are gone and she respects all the household possessions. She does initially whine for a few minutes when they leave, but she quickly settles in and waits for them to return. Candy is being fostered with two cats who she pays no attention to. Candy doesn’t seem to be a big fan of other dogs so she should be adopted as an only dog. She does have early-onset cataracts which limit her vision a bit. She goes down stairs a bit more slowly and doesn’t see very well in low-light. Candy’s ideal home would have ample time for snuggling. They also should be able to appreciate her super awesome mohawk.
Candy’s foster family is afraid that she might be a Mogwai (from the Gremlins movies), so they suggest never feeding her after midnight.

FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60651
AGE: Apx 2 Years
WEIGHT: 55lbs
KIDS: Yes
DOGS: Required
CATS: Yes

HISTORY:
Atlas was a stray brought to an animal control facility on Chicago’s south side. Due to his fears he was not a candidate for direct adoption. He remained with that organization for 11 months.

ABOUT:
Atlas finds the world to be very big and kind of scary. We thought about DNA testing him but are afraid it will come back “half dog-half chicken”, and THEN what would we do with him? Atlas’ fears are mostly around new environments and experiences. He is the most fearful outside as it is constantly changing and never predictable. One of the biggest things that helps Atlas feel more comfortable is having a confident dog around for him to watch and mirror. It makes such a remarkable difference that we will require him to be adopted into a home with at least one other dog, but would love if he was adopted into a multiple-dog household. He is great with every dog he has met. His foster home regularly dog-sits and he has been great with big dogs, small dogs, senior dogs, and annoying dogs...you name it, he likes them. He is very passive and never corrects another dog, so he could possibly be bullied by overly assertive dogs. The more dogs around, the more confident and relaxed Atlas is. Due to the outside world being one of Atlas’ biggest fears we will also require that he has a very secure fenced yard of any size. It is required for security and his emotional well being and not for space. Atlas is accepting of strangers, but he does need a few minutes to get comfortable with them. Within a few minutes he is sneaking up behind them to steal some sniffs. Within a few more minutes he can only best be described as a “close-talker” as he likes to get awkwardly close to your face and then sniff you all over or stare into your eyes from inches away. Why is this awesome? Because you get to feel velvety soft dog snoot on your face! Atlas loves to snuggle with both people and dogs. He is not being fostered with any children, but we feel he would be appropriate for homes with kids. If they got very loud or rowdy he might remove himself from the situation, but we are sure he would be back snuggling with them once they calmed down. Atlas is the kind of dog that you cannot help but fall in love with once you meet him. He is eternally sweet, and tries so hard to be brave even when he is scared.

ABOUT:
Barry is a 15 year old terrier mix. He is very independent and is happy just chilling on his bed, but greets everyone, wanting love and rubs. He was dropped off at a vet and we were so happy to take him in. His foster mom describes him as a lovebug, sweetheart, and fine around other dogs. This old man would just love a cozy dog bed he can curl up on to live out the rest of his years.

Looking for a cuddle buddy? Jem is your girl! Jem is approximately 2 years old and the absolute sweetest girl who loves nothing more than being close to her people. Apart from snuggling, she has a nice medium energy level and will play with toys on her own (or with you), preferably soft squeaky toys, Kongs and anything she can chew on! Jem is house trained, but is still working on her crate training. She would do best in a home without cats.
Jem would love to get adopted with her brother, Scout, but can separate for the right home.

AGE: 7 Years (Est DOB: 2011)
WEIGHT: 11lbs
KIDS: Older
DOGS: Yes
CATS: No

HISTORY:
Little Rocky was surrendered to CACC because his family was moving and their new home didn’t allow any pets.

ABOUT:
Do you love tennis balls? Yes? Little Rocky does too! We have never seen a chihuahua with such a ball drive. Rocky loves to play fetch and brings the tennis ball right back to you and drops it so you can throw it again, and again...and again. Daily fetch is a requirement for this guy. When he gets tired he will bring it back and plop down next to you so he can play with the ball by himself. Little Rocky is very affectionate and loves to give kisses to his people, so if you hate being licked he’s not the right dog for you. Little Rocky is a super happy guy whose tail never stops wagging! He was briefly fostered with a 100lb dog and after his initial terror wore off he did very well with him, but didn’t have much interest in actually interacting and might be happiest as an only dog or with another dog who doesn’t want to interact very much. Little Rocky is a super sweet loving little guy but he does have some of the stereotypical chihuahua traits. A confident, patient home who can set limits and boundaries are an absolute must for this guy. He needs to earn any privileges such as sitting on the couch or on your lap. Because of his tendencies to think he might run the show Little Rocky will do best with teenage aged kids who can understand how to maintain limits with him. Little Rocky is completely housetrained, but doesn’t seem to know how to ask to go out himself so you have to be in charge of making sure he goes out regularly. He is crated during the day and will go right in for his foster family when they give him the command. Little Rocky is very people motivated and loves to be around you and will cry briefly if he is separated from his people.

CATS: Possibly

HISTORY:
Micah was surrendered to an shelter facility. It was to stressful for a senior so they looked for a group who could get him into a foster home.

ABOUT:
Micah is everything you would expect from a senior dog: he is calm, easy going, gentle, well behaved, sweet, and loving. Micah loves people, and they are truly what makes his world go ‘round. He loves to follow his foster mom around and won’t even go to bed until she does. If she goes to the kitchen, Micah goes to the kitchen. He will be the absolute perfect constant companion for someone. We think Micah would do well with children, we were told he lived with them previously and he is very gentle. He has met dogs and does well. He loves to say hi to the other dogs, but is mostly concerned with whatever it is that the people are doing. The shelter he was surrendered to said that he did not react to any cats, so he might even be good with cats too! He is quite the talker and has a bunch of different noises to indicate different things! Once you get to know him you get to know what he’s asking for. Micah is very well behaved and he is given free roam of the house while his foster mom is at work. Micah’s foster mom says that everyone who meets him falls completely in love with him. HISTORY:
King’s owner had been keeping him in their apartment for many many years. The landlord did a surprise visit and realized they had a dog and forced the family to surrender him to a shelter immediately.

ABOUT:
Despite being blind King is an adventurous guy! When he is introduced to a new space the first thing he wants to do is walk around and investigate. King loves to cuddle and snuggle while in the house, but when he is outside he insists on being set down so that he can walk around and explore the world, he has no fear! King does bark when he can’t find anyone but if you call out to him he will quiet up and use his radar-like skills to come find you. He is being fostered with multiple other dogs and he gets along great with everyone and loves to be in the middle of the action. His foster home feels that he would probably do just as well with cats. King lives with a 13 year old boy and they get along great. He would probably do best in a home with someone who is home often, or has other friendly, social pets who can stay with him while the people are gone. King has one silly/peculiar behavior: He loves to sleep with JUST his head covered by a blanket! King’s foster mom used the following words to describe him: Sweet, Gentle, Nuzzly, Cuddly, Adventurous.
Being 13 years old, King has a few medical conditions that potential adopters should know about. He is currently on the heart medications: Vetmedin, Furosemide, and Enapril, but he is receiving a low dose so this could be increased as time goes on if needed. His vet suggested that 1 year would be the very low end of his prognosis, but she often sees dogs live up to 3 years with his condition. We estimate his monthly medications to be around $80. His general blood work is great for a dog his age and he is still very active. King’s foster mom is doing a fantastic job with him and is doing a great job managing his health and is even personally sponsoring his medications and vet visits, but she would love to share the happiness his joy extrudes with a forever home of his own. King is looking for an adopter who wants a great, happy, glass-half-full companion, but who has the financial stability to cover his monthly medications.
